Guess Who? {Flashback Friday}

I'm going to take another little break from my pregnancy story because the theme of this week's Flashback Friday is Valentine's Day. I don't have a lot of experience of Valentine's Day; I have been with my husband since I was sixteen, he was my first real boyfriend for our first one he cooked me a delicious meal but since then it has mostly passed us by.

However, one of my main Valentine's memories is from Primary School; do you remember making cards for every occasion in school? I must have been nine and I made a Valentine's Day card in school with little springy hearts. My cards had usually always gone to my parents but this year a few of my friends we're starting to give them out to boys, real life boys! When I say give them out, I of course mean sneak in at lunch time and hide them in their tray.

I decided that I wanted to give my card to a boy in the class, lets call him Bob. I had liked Bob for a while and had quite a crush on him at the time. After school everyone put their chairs on top of the tables; I hung back until everyone had left class and popped back in to put my card on his chair. I came out of school and I must have been too giddy and gave the game away to my Mum. Apparently she didn't feel that Bob was the right boy to receive my first Valentine's card and was quite disappointed with my choice! As a young impressionable girl I began to think that maybe she was right, was Bob really the boy for me? Would he be considerate and respectful? Could I see us holding hands in the playground?

I cannot be sure how I came to the decision but my mother I came to the conclusion that another boy, lets call him Archie, was more worthy of my affections. I began to panic, I had left my card on Bobs chair, he would find it in the morning and Archie would never have his chance. Not to fear my Mum had the perfect plan up her sleeve! I dashed back into my classroom and snatched my card from Bob's chair. That evening under the cover of darkness and with the excuse of walking our dog, me and my Mum set off to Archie's house. As my Mum hid behind a bush I crept up his drive as silent as a ninja, posted the card and ran away quick. Elated by my delivery I walked back home with a great sense of relief that my card had gone to a suitable boy. Of course my card was signed, 'Guess Who?' so Archie never knew I had sent it but I sometimes wonder if I should have gone with my instincts and made Bob My Valentine.

Disclaimer - My mother has never since interfered in my choice of boy, looking back she was, in fact, correct. Mums only ever want the very best for their children!

    1. I love reminding my Mum of this story, she gets so embarrassed because this really isn't like her normally. Now I'm a parent I can see why she was tempted though! x
